Day 2-Panda Reseach Center

We've had Melaina now for over 24 hours & the honeymoon is over.
This  baby girl is grieving bad .  It's the most heartbreaking thing to watch.
When she woke up with us in the hotel room she was very confused.
We took her to breakfast & she had a few bits of oatmeal & a small piece of watermelon.  She barely drank anything either. She wouldn't even try any of the food, she'd push our hand away.
After breakfast we went to the Panda Research Center.
She was seemed to be fine, giving us a few smiles here & there

She was in good spirits being out & about & quickly fell asleep in the car ride to the hotel.
She took a good nap & then it was pure sadness the rest of the evening.

She has a very tender heart & smile.
We got her to eat more & drink more but she had a look of grief on her face for most of the night.
This is the face of heartbreak. She just walked around with tears in her eyes, quietly crying.
This is breaking our hearts.
We're having a rough time.
We pray today goes better & we see her open up more to us.
Any words of encouragement or advice is welcome especially for those who have BTDT.

  2. Anne, you know that God has given you this sweet child. In your heart, you have been bonding with her for several months. She will draw on your love and will soon be receptive of it. Keep up your faith and hope and love. I continue to pray for you all.

  3. Each day will get better. She has been through so much in such little time. Be patient and give her all the love you can. In a few days she will seem like a different little girl. Blessings

She cried a lot especially when she went to sleep and woke up~ remembering what had happened to her. It is the most heartbreaking thing in the world!!! I am praying today is much better!!! I know SJ was finally better by Guangzhou. Blessings and love! XO

  6. I don't know if you will stay in contact with her foster mother or not, but if you do get a chance to give her an update, I'm sure she would want to know that of course your daughter is doing well. But also, that she grieved too and that their relationship mattered to your daughter. Soon she'll forget, but her foster mother will never forget, and she'll know that for a short time, she mattered in your daughter's life. I say this as an Korean adult adoptee who lived with a foster mother for months before being adopted in the US. I have no memory of her, but I know that I was loved and cared for while I was waiting to come to the US and be with my "forever family."

  7. Time...... time will pass and will get your daughter over the grief. It is hard. I remember our daughter (2 years ago) grieving in the hotel. When we were out, she was fine (looking everywhere to catch a glimpse of her foster mom), but back in the hotel, she was just a small bundle of HURT..... Back in Beijing (we have to go through Beijing where our consulate is) she already warmed up. Give her time, acknowledge her grief, carry her EVERYWHERE, like her foster mom did. No further tips, just know that it is good that her grief comes out. She is willing to show you that she is hurt, which is already a good thing!
    Take care.....
    Love,
Anita (from Holland, celebrating our 2nd Gotcha day tomorrow!!!)

  8. I just saw your comment on my blog, and I had to pop over to check in on you all!! Hang in there -- our daughter was in the exact same place -- exactly four months ago today, in fact. She also refused to eat or drink anything at all. That got better, slowly, over the following week, but it left us a total disaster. If all else fails, try popsicles!! That was the first, best way we got liquid into her. Also we taught her to drink from a straw -- she was rejecting cups and her bottle. She also loved sweet bean paste from the pastries on the hotel's breakfast buffet. Just keep trying -- anything and everything, and keep the faith. This will all get much, much, much better with time.
